Hanging lamp OPART I

Hanging wooden lamp in natural oak color, decorated with geometric patterns of the origins of optical art. The weaving pattern of the Žemaitian linen towel has moved onto the luminous hood.

20th century optical art, known in English as the abbreviation op art, was based on optical illusions of perception. The most famous examples of this visual art are black-and-white geometric abstractions that give the viewer the impression of movement, as well as hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, swelling or distorting edges.

The illusion of moving patterns was woven in the Žemaitian towel long before the famous creators of the Opart movement, Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, etc., became famous. The museum's textile heritage brought to life in the lamp casts a pleasant riddle about the weaver from Žemaitsa, who sat at the loom at the dawn of optical art.
